Jim Moulton has asked me to, as he said "use the power of the librarians to
help spread the word" about training for middle school staff. This is a
free training from National Semiconductor focused on the MLTI (laptop
project). Please note that the criteria given to participate does not say
that you had to have been issued a MLTI laptop. This staff development
opportunity recognizes that all educators are part of the efforts to
integrate technology. The prerequisites for the workshop asks middle school
educators to have:

Previous experience conducting Web searches and working with Web pages
Comfortable using the Internet, especially in the classroom and integrating
it into lesson plans
Commitment to train other teachers at your school in your grade level using
the material covered in this workshop

Sure sounds like school library media specialists to me!!

We know research studies show that when library media specialists are
involved in the training of teachers, teachers and students are more
successful. Student achievement is impacted when librarians are involved in
collaborative planning with classroom teachers. So look around your school,
find a colleague you think would be good for this, and invite them to go
with you to this FREE opportunity for a partnership as efforts are made to
integrate technology into the curriculum.

Sylvia

P.S. Also, when you receive your Maine Libraries Conference registration,
sign up for Jim Moulton's "Someday and Monday: Learning & Living with
Laptops" at the Post-Conference on May 6th.

====================

Hello,

We're happy to announce the re-scheduling of a training session designed to
help MLTI educators integrate the Internet into their schools. This
training session, donated to us by National Semiconductor, will help all
MLTI educators to:

- Learn more about the Internet and online resources that are available to
them
- Develop an Internet-rich classroom activity and create a Web page to
complement their curricula
- Share this knowledge with other educators at their school by facilitating
their own training sessions

The training workshop is broken into two 6-hour days, composed of the
following:

- Day 1: Learning about the Web and available online resources, how
to develop a lesson plan for your classroom and create an effective Web page
to complement it (Note: for this day, you may invite a student from your
class to attend)
- Day 2: Learning how to instruct your peers on the use of online
resources in their classrooms and how to support the development of their
colleagues' own online lesson plans

The next training session is scheduled for Monday, March 24th and Wednesday,
March 26th at the Pineland Center in New Gloucester. (NOTE:
Relocation of this session to Noble High School in Berwick is
possible - all registrants will be informed of final decision) To
register for this
course, please visit our registration web site at:

especially for web searching and with classroom curricula
- Capable of teaching new technology to others
- Agree to train other teachers of their grade level at their school using
the material covered in this workshop

We hope that you will register for this exciting new course and look forward
to seeing you at the workshop.
