Recap of Statewide Zoom Meeting – October 26 plus new info

You can access the meeting recording on the MSL Coronavirus page<https://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/services/Coronavirus.htm> in the far right column of archived meetings. Here is a direct link to the October 26 Zoom meeting<https://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/services/zoom_10262021.mp4> recording for your convenience.

Topics discussed:

We introduced Marijke Visser to everyone attending.

Marijke has just come on board as of Monday, October 25 as the new Continuing Education Coordinator and Supervisor of the Specialists team at MSL. She replaces Stephanie Zurinski but in a new reorganization will serve as the manager of the team of MSL Specialists/Liaisons. Marijke is joining us from the ALA Washington Office where she was a Senior Policy Advocate in the Public Policy & Advocacy Office. We are so happy to welcome her to MSL staff and she will be moving from Maryland to Maine in the upcoming months.

We also introduced two of the new Bendable Maine Fellows.

The Drucker Institute has hired four fellows to work with us as we build Bendable Maine.

All will work around the state but have some geographic focus

Both Christina Kane-Gibson - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> (Northern Maine) and Kate Hunter - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> (Central and Western Maine) joined us and said hello. Just hired last week are Paul Salway and Landis Hackett who will be coming on board in the next few weeks. Coverage is Southern Maine, Midcoast and Downeast.

Formula Grants Summary

256 eligible libraries

211 funded

10 libraries formally declined funding

35 libraries did not apply

We will accept applications until October 31, 2021

Due to the delays with the Budget Office, we will extend the time frame to spend the funds into 2022.

Ideally, by end of the first quarter, 2022 – so March 31, 2022 and all reports by June 30, 2022.

Total amount funded: $558,500.00

Budgeted: $666,250.00

Balance will benefit public libraries in acquisition of a statewide resource that we will ask your input on.

We received some competitive pricing for Udemy. Our capacity to do further subgrants is limited due to the intensive process. We hope the remining 35 libraries will apply this week.
