Several weeks ago a New Century Grant application (due on Oct. 16, 2002) was
mailed to all public libraries.  This application is also available on the
Maine State Library web site at www.state.me.us/msl
<http://www.state.me.us/msl> .
Last Friday a copy of the guidelines for these grants and a copy of the
evaluation form were mailed to each public library.  The guidelines are now
posted on the MSL web site along with the application.  A reminder that
although public libraries must, by state law, be the applicants for these
grants, other types of libraries and cultural agencies can be partners in
the grant application.

The New Century Grant Guidelines should be considered a work in progress.
If you have questions, need more clarity or find we have omitted an
important point, please contact me.   The changes will be announced on
MELIBS and put into the online document.  (These changes will not impact the
current integrity or goals of the grant application - they will add clarity
or needed information currently not included.)  I look forward to hearing
