Maine Info Net Cataloger

The Maine State Library seeks an individual to work with Maine
State
Library staff and the staffs of other Maine libraries involved in
MINERVA, the Holdings Database and Maine Info Net in
enhancing and
maintaining the quality of bibliographic data in these statewide
online library systems.

An individual is sought with energy, flexibility, exemplary
cataloging skills, a superior ability to communicate orally, in
writing and via various electronic media, and at least two years
professional experience in cataloging within a MARC-based
automated
systems environment.  ALA-Accredited MLS expected.

Thorough knowledge of and extensive experience with the
following are
required:  MARC 21 Bibliographic and Authority formats;
authority
control standards and methods; original cataloging based on
AACR2
standards; creation and delivery training sessions for others;
creation of documentation for use by others.  Experience with
Innovative Interfaces software, OCLC cataloging processes,  and
basic
creation and maintenance of web documents are a plus.

Duties include: correcting cataloging errors within online
databases;
monitoring cataloging activity of system users and calling local
staff attention to errors and applicable standards; managing
authority control activities within a system; identifying, analyzing
and developing solutions for database quality issues within a
system;
working with system library staff to develop appropriate
cataloging
standards; developing and delivering training sessions on
cataloging-
related topics aimed a local library staffs; advising Maine State
Library staff in matters related to bibliographic database
practice;
doing original cataloging as necessary; performing such other
cataloging-related tasks as may be necessary.
