Maine Memory Network
Northern Outreach Consultant


 The Maine Historical Society is seeking a part-time, temporary Outreach
Consultant based in Northern Maine
for its online database of historical source documents, the Maine Memory
Network (www.mainememory.net). Electronic versions of historical items in
the database are contributed by collecting organizations across Maine and
the region. The Outreach Consultant will be responsible for creating and
managing relationships between the Maine Memory Network and historical
societies, museums, libraries, and archives in Northern Maine.

Tasks will include introducing the website and new technologies to remote
organizations, reviewing an organization's collections, setting and
maintaining goals for the number contributions, providing computer
training and technical support, supporting digitization and cataloging
efforts, and coordinating regional presentations. Important skills of an
applicant include a familiarity with history and handling historical
documents, excellent computer and technical skills including an ability to
work with a wide range of computer equipment, interpersonal and
organizational skills, and patience. Applicants must be willing to travel
and have their own transportation. The position will require 16 hours per
week for 6 months.
