Dear Colleague:
We recently learned that the Department of Education is behind schedule
with respect to grant announcements for Talent Search and will be unable to
meet the expectation laid out in the FY 16 Omnibus Appropriation bill that
all Talent Search and EOC grants be announced by July 31.
While the Talent Search slate has been forward for clearance, the EOC slate
has not yet been released by the Student Service Division. After the
slates are released, they must be approved by a number of offices within
the Department before being forwarded to Congress.
COE also learned the Eileen Bland (Director, Undergraduate Program
Division, Student Service) and James Davis (Director, GEAR UP, Talent
Search, and the College Access Challenge Grant Division, Student Service)
will be switching positions. Ms. Bland will oversee the Talent Search and
GEAR UP programs and Mr. Davis will oversee the Student Service Division.
The Department continues to plan that Upward Bound application materials
will be released in August.
COE will send out more information as we receive it.
