There is a great article on the history of Talent Search (50 years) in this
edition of Equality -

“Talent Search” began in 1966 to operate 42 projects serving 50,000
students, funded with $2 million ($15 million in 2015 dollars). In 2015,
fifty years later, 450 projects serve 310,747 students with a total budget
of $134.6 million.
