Greetings Colleagues,


Central Maine Community College anticipates an opening for a full-time TRiO Academic and Transfer Advisor for its Student Support Services program. This grant-funded position is responsible for tracking student success and apprising the Project Director of student persistence concerns and recommending strategies. The TRiO Academic and Transfer Advisor helps develop and deliver programs and services intended to improve retention rates. This position assists participants with academic advising, financial aid information, transfer college admission information, transfer college financial aid application assistance. The TRiO Academic and Transfer Advisor will have experience in data collection and data management as well as successful leadership experience in a student support environment. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated experience providing comparable services to "at-risk" populations. Preference will be given to applicants who have overcome and/or are familiar with important educational issues facing low-income, first generation students and/or diverse populations.



Required Qualifications

-Master's Degree in education, counseling, social work, communications, or a related field; a Bachelor's Degree and three years' experience in a TRiO program will be considered in lieu of a Master's Degree.

-Minimum of two years of training or successful experience working with low-income, first-generation, and/or disabled students,  Successful experience in academic support activities and academic advising

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-Excellent organizational and time management skills

-Knowledge and skills in the use of computers and significant software programs

-Ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment

-Ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds



Desired qualifications

-Direct student service experience working in a post-secondary environment

-Familiarity with the college transfer process

-Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment



This position has an anticipated start date of September 1, 2015. Continuation of the federally-funded position is dependent upon renewal of funding.
