TRIO College Success Advisor/Peer Mentor Support

York County Community College, established is 1994, is a regionally accredited comprehensive institution that offers associate degrees, certificate programs, and non-credit courses and training to business and industry.

This full time position reports to the TRIO Student Support Services Project Director. The TRIO Student Support Services Project at YCCC is a federally-funded program supported by a 5year competitive renewable grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This project is currently funded through August 31, 2020.

The College Success Advisor/Mentor Support will be assigned a caseload of 75-80 students. The person in this position will monitor academic progress, secure academic tutoring and other resources as needed for students enrolled in the TRIO SSS project.  The person in this position will also provide advice and assistance in course selection and help each participant properly prepare for meetings with a college-assigned faculty adviser to students in his/her caseload. The College Success Advisor/Mentor Support will provide leadership and support for the TRIO SSS Peer Mentors. This staff member will also assist the Project Director with other project initiatives as requested by the Director.

Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

Master's Degree in Education or related field.
Three years of professional experience with a variety of academic support activities in higher education including academic evaluation, academic advising, financial aid assistance, and data collection & data management Is also required.  The successful candidate must also exhibit effective (written & oral) communication and computer skills.


Desirable qualifications include experience overcoming barriers similar to those experienced by TRIO students is preferred. Skills in social media, leadership experience in a student support environment, experience using a student information database are all highly desirable.
