Assistant Director of Disability Support Services, University of Maine

Salaried permanent, 12 month position

The University of Maine seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Disability Services. This position provides professional case management services to a diverse population of students reporting disabilities. The Assistant Director reviews disability
documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations and coordinates accommodations, support and related services to disabled students, with emphasis on students with psychological disabilities. The Assistant Director documents, maintains and
reviews hard copy and electronic case records. The Assistant Director assists the Director in providing training, educational experiences and information to faculty, staff and students regarding disability-related issues, and presents to various
classes and organizations as requested.  The Assistant Director represents the Disability Support Services office as needed at New Student Orientation in the summer and provides educational sessions and consultation to parents and incoming students.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Rehabilitation Sciences, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Social Work or related field. Three years’ experience in the provision of services to students
with disabilities within a post-secondary setting is required, five years preferred. Successful experience in educating/training faculty and staff. Demonstrated knowledge of federal legislation and regulations pertinent to students with
disabilities. Familiarity with learning assessment tools and experience interpreting psycho-educational reports and suggesting both accommodations and learning strategies for the classroom setting. Excellent oral, written, presentation and public
speaking skills. Understanding of Assistive Technology (AT). Experience working with students with psychological disabilities.
