Great post Cathy!  Some thoughts..

Last week before Walsh's return, Larry Mahoney wrote an article about Cardinal.

This is a good point.  The ship did not sink under Cronin, and no one doubts
that it will sail again under Walsh.  This time hopefully in the right
direction.
 
Regardless of what you think of Cronin, you have to applaude him for keeping
things together despite mounting circumstances.  Things could have been much
worse than they were.
 
Cronin may have greater success elsewhere.  He was always under the shadow
of Walsh, and no matter what happened he would have always been compared to
Walsh.
