Maine beat BC in convincing fashion, 5-2, tonight at Alfond Arena. Colin Shields scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season to put the Bears ahead by 1-0 and 2-1. A power play goal by Michael Schutte made it 3-1, and insurance goals by Niko Dimitrakos and Ben Murphy rounded out the UMaine scoring at 4-2 and 5-2.

The game was quite physical, with BC getting the better of it, aided by Referee Ned Bunyan's decision to keep his whistle in a place where the sun doesn't shine (in his pocket?). Maine didn't finish its checks as consistently as the Eagles, but they got in enough licks to keep the play from being one-sided.

In the third period, UMaine evidently decided to shoot the puck at the BC goalie (long Finnish name which I won't even try to spell out here). The strategy worked, as two of the three third-period goals were on rebounds.

One enterprising fan painted a 2'x20 foot banner with a message for No. 30 (the Finnish goalie). Unfortunately, it was in Finnish, so almost no one in the stands had the faintest idea what it said.
