The U.S. Under-18 team won the gold medal at the U-18 world championships behind the goaltending of UMaine recruit James Howard.  U.S. Hockey Report noted that Howard was the leading goaltender in terms of both GAA (1.33) and save percentage (.954). He appeared in six of the eight U.S. games and played in all of the medal round games.
