ORONO, Maine (AP) -- Josh Soares scored his team's first goal and then
assisted on the game-winner Friday as No. 11 Maine upset No. 4 Boston
College, 4-1.
Maine (20-10-1, 13-8-1 Hockey East) set the tone early by scoring three
goals in the first period and out-shooting Boston College (19-8-2, 16-5-1
Hockey East) 17-3.
Soares' unassisted short-handed goal 6:42 into the first gave the Black
Bears the early edge. He set up Maine's next goal 14:30 into the first
when Michel Leveille poked in a Soares rebound.
Less than a minute later, Derek Damon gave Maine a 3-0 edge when he tipped
in a shot from Billy Ryan. Ryan added an empty-net goal with nine seconds
to go in the game.
Boston College avoided a shutout with Steven Gionta's goal early in the
second period. Maine goaltender Ben Bishop stopped 20 shots in the win.
Cory Schneider made 35 saves for BC.
