Hobey Baker runner-up) from Albany of the American Hockey League; assigned
center Steve Sullivan to Albany; assigned center Neal Broten to Manitoba of the

NHL SUSPENDS TORONTO'S SCHNEIDER FOR HIT ON KARIYA
 
The National Hockey League suspended Toronto Maple Leafs
defenseman Mathieu Schneider, pending a hearing on Friday, for a
flagrant elbow on Paul Kariya in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Anaheim.
The elbow against Kariya occurred late in the first period.
Kariya was setting up a play near the top of the slot when
Schneider connected with an elbow to the face, sending Kariya to
the ice. Kariya was diagnosed with a mild concussion and will
stay in California for Anaheim's two road games this weekend. He
was hospitalized overnight for observation and precaution.
Schneider, who didn't receive a penalty for on the play, has
three goals and six assists with eight penalty minutes in 17
games this year.
