Good morning Joebox MECguard users,

Many of you experienced web connection problems this morning, as there
was a recurrence of a problem we have seen a couple times now in the
past few weeks. The cause appears to be a longstanding issue that has
yet to be fully isolated by MECnet, and to date there is no official
solution. The symptoms of the issue are that suddenly, shortly after
midnight, web traffic ceases to pass on the network, although
everything else continues to work (i.e. pings, DNS, ftp, telnet, etc).
In most cases HTTPS connections continue to work as well, it is just
HTTP that is affected.

Although as mentioned we do not have an official fix from MECnet, we
have just deployed a package update for the Joeboxes that should
provide a workaround for the issue. This update will perform an early
morning automatic restart of the MECguard service. In order to apply
the update, you will need to log in to your Joebox and go to
System->Info/Tools->Software/Update. You should see an update for the
"maine" package to 15.1. If the current version reads 15.1 then your
Joebox already has the change applied. Please apply any other updates
you may have available on that page as well. Note that you will need
to restart the Joebox after installing the updates in order for them
to take effect.

If you have any questions about this issue or the update, please don't
hesitate to contact us. We understand that this issue has been a
major inconvenience for our Joebox users and hope that this update
will prevent it from happening again.
