A CALL FOR PAPERS

2nd New England Invasive Plant Summit: Friday & Saturday, September 16-17, 2005
Location: Sheraton Framingham Hotel, Framingham, Massachusetts

Convened by: Invasive Plant Atlas of New England (IPANE) and New England
Invasive Plant Group (NIPGro) and partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture

Principle organizers: University of Connecticut, Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, New England Wild Flower Society

Gather with scientists, land managers, policy-makers, educators, horticulturists, industry leaders and volunteers sharing solutions to the invasive plant problem in our region. The conference will highlight research and case studies on the management of invasive plant species. Invited speakers and panelists will offer perspectives on a variety of invasive species issues. Two half-day symposia and posters will enable researchers and those with extensive expertise to share their findings. Organizations and agencies will show displays highlighting their activities.

Abstracts for contributed presentations (oral and posters) are invited from additional speakers from the Northeast, especially New England. Topics of interest include:

1. Research findings on non-native plant species that are invasive in the region focusing on:
management and restoration techniques, biology, ecology, distribution and impacts on biodiversity.

2. Case studies on the management of non-native invasive plant species of this region and
       restoration of impacted areas.

3. Horticultural and restoration issues, including:
developing sterile varieties of invasive species; encouraging and marketing alternatives; restoration needs (availability of species, local genotypes, native vs non-native, etc.); developing collaborations between conservationists and growers; issues involving the choice of alternatives for plantings.

Due to the nature of the Summit, only a very limited number of oral presentations can be accommodated. These will be selected by the Program Committee to best address the needs of the program. Posters, an alternative presentation format, will be an integral part of the program with authors present during dedicated viewing times. Posters offer a unique opportunity for extended discussion on cutting-edge results and ideas with Summit participants.

Abstracts (250 word limitation) for contributed posters and 15-minute oral sessions must be received no later than 5:00pm EST Wednesday, June 1, 2005. Abstracts and associated information should be submitted by mail to: Ms. Kathy Tebo, IPANE Invasive Plant Summit II, Unit 43, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, 06269-3043. No electronic submissions will be accepted.

As planning progresses, a full agenda and registration information will be posted on the IPANE website.
Registration for one or both days will be accommodated. To download abstracts from the 2003 Summit, visit (http://invasives.uconn.edu/ipane/aboutproject/abstracts.htm). Questions can be directed to Cynthia Boettner at 413-863-0209 ext.6, [log in to unmask]
