Former NHL all-star and Northeastern head coach Fern Flaman
    was voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the veterans
    category.  Although I didn't get to see him play in the NHL,
    from all accounts this award is well overdue and well-deserved.
    And although he wasn't voted in for his work at Northeastern,
    he was the guy that brought Northeastern hockey into the big-time,
    and I enjoyed working for him for three years.  Congratulations,
    Coach Flaman!
 
    Gil Perreault & Bill Barber were also selected.
 
    Here's some words I dug up from an old posting on Bruins' honorees
    during the Garden's 60th anniversary:
 
    FERN FLAMAN:  A Bruin from 1944-51 and 1954-61...Scored 30 goals and had
        147 assists in 682 games...Six All-Star selections on defense...Bruins'
        captain from 1955-61...Won a Stanley Cup with Toronto (1951)...Third in
        all-time Bruins penalty minutes behind Terry O'Reilly and Mike
 Milbury...
        Was called "the toughest defenseman I ever faced" by Gordie
 Howe...Coached
        19 seasons from 1970-1989 as head coach at Northeastern
 University...Took
        the Huskies to the NCAA Final Four in 1982 and to the Hockey East title
        in 1988, along with four Beanpots and several ECAC titles.
