Strange things with old Frankie. First, we have the Hockey News
issue of July 1990, the double issue awards review/regular issue,
where on page 42 we find:
"Ex-Lake Superior State head coach Frank Anzalone wants his
team back, but it's highly unlikely he'll be granted his wish.
In a passionate written statement released June 6, Anzalone
said the school's administration treated him unfairly when it
fired him May 30, but he's willing to return behind the Laker bench.
'Not too long ago I dreamed of winning a national championship.
I woke up, I worked hard. I rallied support and the dream became
a reality,' said Anzalone, who coached LSSU to a national crown in
1988. 'Now, I dream again, that I will have my team back.'
LSSU athletic director Jim Fallis, who replaced Anzalone with
long-time assistant coach Jeff Jackson, said he let Anzalone go
because the coach 'repeatedly expressed his unhappiness' about the
school and his co-workers.
And, contrary to Anzalone's insistence, Fallis said his ex-coach
never fully accepted the new contract offer the administration made.
'He says he accepted the offer in writing, but what we have isn't
a full acceptance of what we offered,' said Fallis. 'If I offer to
sell you a car for $1,000, and you counter by saying you'll give me
$975 and a lawn mower, that's not an acceptance to me.
'No, I don't see (Anzalone) returning in the imminent future.'
In his letter, Anzalone stated he accepted the offer within the
required time and that he was simply doing his job by trying to
acquire more money for himself, his assistants and the program.
Anzalone compiled a 191-108-22 record in eight years with the
Lakers, winning the one NCAA tournament title. This season LSSU
finished 28-7-3, good for second place in the Central Collegiate
Athletic Association."
Then, I read in the paper:
