A. How the HOCKEY-L List Works.

The list is a Revised LISTSERV list called HOCKEY-L and is residing
at the University of Maine System MAINE.MAINE.EDU cpu. When
someone sends an article via mail to [log in to unmask],
LISTSERV distributes a copy of the article to everyone subscribed
to the list. A copy of the article is also appended to a file on a
a disk of LISTSERV. A separate file is kept for each month.
Normally, the header of the mail you receive from the HOCKEY-L list
will have a "From:" field containing the address of the person
submitting the article and a "Reply-To:" field of the HOCKEY-L
list. This means, if you simply reply to the mail file you get
from HOCKEY-L, most mail user agents (your mail program) will
construct a header that will cause your reply to go to the HOCKEY-L
list for all to read. If you intend to send a private reply to the
author of an article, make sure your reply mail has a "To:" field
of the article author and not the HOCKEY-L list. Some mail user
agents support a syntax for this, such as "Reply From:".
Important Note: There are three places you might send mail to
concerning a LISTSERV list such as HOCKEY-L:
1. *Everything* sent to the list, [log in to unmask],
will be distributed to *all* HOCKEY-L subscribers.
2. Send a request to sign off the list or ask for an archived
file or make another command to [log in to unmask]
3. Questions, comments and problems may be sent to the
HOCKEY-L list owner Wayne Smith at [log in to unmask]

If your mail address is to change or you wish to stop getting
College_Hockey mailings (hard to believe! 8-)), send a mail file

All College_Hockey submissions are archived into monthly files called
notebooks, as long as sufficient space exists. From time to time,
other files may be stored on the list. If you are on Internet,

To get a listing of all available files, in the *body* of the mail
file put this:

To obtain a copy of a file, in the *body* of the mail file put this:

Note: "filetype" is the file type of the file as shown in an INDEX
command output. For example,

Q: My mail program recognizes neither MAINE.MAINE.EDU nor MAINE;
does this mean I can't participate in College_Hockey?
A: There are many gateways between various networks. Sometimes brain
dead mailers don't recognize these addresses, but will recognize a
"source routed" form of an address. Try

There are many possibilities for addresses to get you to the U
of Me Sys cpu; see your local postmaster for the best address
for you to use.
Q: When I write an article for College_Hockey, the list doesn't send
me a copy of my own article! What gives?
A: This is the standard LISTSERV action. To change this, send mail
to [log in to unmask] with the *body* of the mail containing:
SET HOCKEY-L REPRO
Q: I've subscribed to College_Hockey, but I'm not an ice hockey
expert; should I just listen or may I write articles?
A: Within the bounds of good taste and college ice hockey in general,
we *ask* for your participation! Listen to the list for a week or
two first, if that makes you more comfortable, but when you have
something to say or a question of any sort feel free to put it on
the list.
Q: I had my article rejected with this messages: "Distribution of
empty messages is not allowed". What is the problem?
A: LISTSERV requires that the *body* of the mail contain something.
Even if you can say it all in the subject line, you must put
something in the body of the article.
Q: I'm only interested in Kent State hockey. Can I get only articles
about Kent State?
A: No, but we hope this list will help you to know more about college
ice hockey around the world and expand your knowledge and interest
in Kent State hockey too!
