#13 DENVER EEKS OUT 4-3 VICTORY OVER MICHIGAN TECH

DENVER, Colo. -- Almost. Denver scored goals 1:05 apart late in third
period to rally past Michigan Tech by a 4-3 count in Western
Collegiate Hockey Association action Saturday night at the Magness
Arena in Denver.

Denver got the only goal of the first period on J.J. Hartman's
backhander to the right of Tech netminder Rick Cazares at 7:11.

The Huskies evened the game at 5:22 of the second period as Justin
Brown's shot from the center point found the back of the net through
traffic. Frank Werner and Bryan Perez drew assists in the play. The
tie was shortlived, however, as Kevin Doell got his fifth goal of the
weekend with Denver a man up at 7:21. Tech would tie the game with
just :08 left in the middle stanza on the power play as Brandon
Schwartz put home a rebound from the left of Pioneer netminder Wade
Dubielewicz.

Tech took the lead just 1:20 into the third period. Schwartz fended
off a Pioneer defender through the neutral zone and put a one-handed
pass to Engelhardt down the right wing. Engelhardt roofed one into
the upper corner for his third goal of the weekend. The Pioneers tied
the game at 14:10 on a rebound goal from Gabe Gauthier. The winner
came just 1:50 later as rookie Brett Skinner put one into the upper
corner of the net from the point on the power play.

Cazares finished with 40 saves in just his second start of the
season, while Dubielewicz had 16 stops.

NOTES: Justin Brown broke a nine-game pointless and goalless streak
with his power play marker in the second period. Brown also had an
assist in the period to mark his fourth multi-point of the year . . .
Engelhardt had three goals and an assist in the weekend series . . .
Sophomore defenseman Clay Wilson recorded his 20th point of the
season and is the highest-scoring defenseman in a single season at
MTU since Andy Sutton had 40 points in 1997-98.
