As a 12 yr newbie-lurker, rare Hockey-L poster (but avid home watcher), I’m motivated to finally break radio silence after watching this weekend’s games.

1) Was rooting for and anticipating a UMD win but expected more speed from UMass which was dwarfed by UMD’s. UMass had no room anywhere anytime.

2) I get all the protect the head stuff down to the mm CT slice as my area of professional interest revolves around clavicles-up trauma. Having said that, my sweet bride and I lamented the referee/video review stomping of the unbridled enthusiasm and throw-caution-to-the-wind cache' that was the hallmark and attraction of college hockey from years past. Let these young men play, call penalties when need be, and reign in the efforts to mandate absolute safety in an inherently hazardous arena of competition. Maybe make all the sweaters different shades of beige and be done with it.
Spleen vented, back to lurking for another 12, flame on.

Enjoy everyone’s insights and the privilege of following.

I know its a cliche, but UMass looked like they were just happy to make the final and seemed stunned (I think one announcer said 'deer in a headlight') while UMD played like they knew they belonged there and were unwilling to just play well. I was hoping UMass would play a better game and make it a more fun contest, but you cannot deny the greatness of UMD.
