 The Maine Government Summer Internship Program has two openings for summer
interns. Please make these opportunities known to interested students.

1) The *Maine Department of Environmental Protection, located in Portland*,
is looking for a land assistant to prepare an interactive map product using
GIS. The student will gather data and develop GIS layers to establish a
web-based interactive map tool that will provide permit history including
cumulative impervious and developed area, wetland impacts, structures and
any other relevant information for land parcels. Additionally the intern
will assist with compliance of permitted projects carried out in accordance
with project plans. Student must have knowledge and familiarity with
ArcGIS, Databases, Excel Spreadsheets, and Environmental Sciences.

2) The *Maine Department of Environmental Protection, located in Augusta*,
is looking for a hydropower assistant prepare an interactive mapping
product using ARC GIS online. Primarily, the intern will gather data from
various sources to populate an attribute table and work with Department GIS
staff to build a map identifying the location of hydropower dams in Maine,
which allows the user to access information about the dam including its
FERC license and DEP WQC, the location and size of the dam's impoundment,
formal recreational access sites associated with the FERC license, and
physical dimensions of the structures. Additionally, the intern will assist
Land staff with field work, including permit-by-rule compliance inspections
to ensure that permitted projects were carried out in accordance with
project plans.

This internship is full time for 12 weeks and starts on May 29. The pay is
$11/hour.
