Good Morning Everyone,
John Dorr, labor economist and member of the Scholars Strategy Networked
published this op-ed piece in the KJ today regarding the need to follow
through with the planning efforts of the Maine Climate Councils
"Maine Won't Wait: A Four Year Plan For Climate Action".

What many people may fail to understand is that the ability to measure
results and track efforts relies on quality geospatial data in the form of
current elevation, orthoimagery and other data sets developed through
direct acquisition or through processing of existing data.

The GeoLibrary has been at the forefront in working to acquire these data
sets for the state for the last two decades working through partnerships
with public, private and non-profit interest groups to find the funding
necessary. This process is insufficient to meet a four year refresh cycle
envisioned in the Maine Climate Councils report.

We need to reachout to our legislative leaders to ensure that they
understand that these base level data sets are required and that State
funding is necessary to ensure the Council's ability to monitor and effect
climate change.

Merry Christmas to All!
