Hello all,

I would like to see what products or strategies people are using to supplement GPS in difficult environments.

We use Trimble R8 units to GPS various pieces of our infrastructure, usually at ground level, and have encountered two primary difficulties getting fixes. One is obstructions of the horizon (tree cover or buildings), and the other is an inability to place the GPS unit in proper position. This occurs when the target point itself is obstructed by a nearby object. Another example of difficult placement would be a target point in the middle of a busy roadway.

I appreciate any thoughts or experiences. If you would like to reply directly, I will be happy to summarize for the list.

Thanks,
Andy
