Take a look at this important information about arts scholarships, funds for our school arts programs, & what lies ahead for the Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts. Then read on and mark your calendar for events you won't want to miss!

First: what do you know about OSCAr?
- We are an organization of community volunteers supporting arts experiences for Orono students. There are no dues.

- Since its founding just a few years ago, OSCAr has contributed more than $8000 directly to our school arts programs.

- Since OSCAr's scholarship program started two years ago, we have given more than $2000 in scholarships to students in grades 4-12 in order to help defray costs for arts experiences at college, camp, lessons, instrument rentals or repair, and much
more. The Orono Arts Cafe is the sole source of these scholarship funds.

- Last year, more than 100 individuals pitched in to help OSCAr's efforts. Some of these volunteers don't have kids at all, let alone children in the Orono Schools, but they know that arts experiences are important for everyone. They assisted at
school and community concerts, plays, art exhibits, Music for Newtown, the monthly Orono Arts Cafe, and other activities celebrating arts in education.

Are you one of OSCAr's volunteers?
If not, please join us!
If you want ALL our children to discover how the arts enrich our lives and our communities, you'll find many fun and worthwhile ways to contribute, whether it's an hour working an event or a leadership position.
Mark your calendar for Monday, April 27, 7:00pm. We'll be meeting in the vestry of the Church of Universal Fellowship on Main St., to determine the future of OSCAr and set a path for continuing our important work - with YOU on the team!

Now on to Arts Events in our Community and Scholarships:

Friday, April 10, Keith Anderson Community House, Bennoch Road.
Orono Arts Cafe's Third Annual Jazz and Poetry Jam. Performer sign-up 6:30pm, Show starts at 7:00. Bring your favorite poem, a jazz tune or two (other genres of music and spoken word welcome, as well), and plan to join the fun at this popular
annual event.
Admission $3 for all; performers get a coupon for the OAC's famous root beer float, and folks who bring a plate of treats for the snack table get an RBF coupon, too! Sponsored by the Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts; admission and refreshment
sales support arts scholarships and programs in our schools.

Friday and Saturday, April 10-11, OMS/OHS cafe.
The Orono Middle School Drama Club presents "The Orphan Train" at 7:00pm. Donations gratefully accepted. Refreshment sales benefit OMS Drama.

Come and step lively, or just tap your toes and watch!

Beginning Friday, April 10:
Arts Scholarship Applications for students in grades 4-12 in Orono Public Schools will be available at the Orono Arts Cafe, the OMS play, and, beginning Friday, in the offices at Orono High School, Orono Middle School, and Asa Adams Elementary
School. Please note that the deadline for applications is May 1, 2015. And here's a thought: If your child (or a child you know) is applying for an arts scholarship, consider "paying it forward" by pitching in as an OSCAr volunteer!
