Orono's young artists have been in the spotlight in recent days, demonstrating their talent and commitment and even earning some special recognition and TV time.
After last Thursday's premiere of "The Revenger's Tragedy," Orono High School drama students took their production to Brewer for district-level competition in the Maine Drama Festival. Honored to be named to the All Festival Cast were actors
Jessica Walker and Tom Boss. Emily Noyes earned the Judge's Commendation for her work as script editor, dramaturge, and director, while Tom Boss earned the Judge's Commendation for play writing. Bangor's WABI-TV, covering the event, interviewed

In other accomplishments, OHS Speech and Debate team members learned that they have qualified as alternates to represent Maine at a second national tournament, this one sponsored by the prestigious National Speech and Debate Association (formerly
National Forensic League). Alex Fergusson, Melissa St. Peter, and Jessica Walker are alternates in the Humorous Interpretation category, and Alex Fergusson and Kent Everett are alternates in Duo Interpretation. Information will soon be available
about the upcoming tournaments and the effort to help defray the team's tournament travel costs.
Congratulations to all the "speechers and debaters" and their coach, Tory Gram, for superb performances throughout the long and grueling season!

The Orono Contraband is back with toe-tapping tunes for their regular Second-Saturday Contradance, with caller John McIntyre, musicians Anthony, Sam, & Ryu, a half-time show and more. Admission is $8.

An effort is afoot to present a repeat performance of the powerful "1927 Project," a combination drama and community conversation about racial violence. Five OHS students worked with historian Stephanie Harp and teacher Jim Bulteel to investigate
the stories and present the voices of real people whose lives were touched by a 20th-century lynching - an episode that seems far away in time and distance, but that has important connections to our Maine lives. Please stay tuned for more
information and keep yor fingers crossed that those who missed this the first time around will have another chance to witness a truly moving presentation. Meanwhile, congratulations to Tom Boss, Emily Noyes, Else Saunders, Jessica Walker, and Erin
Luthin for the depth of their commitment and the extraordinary quality of their performance.
