1. Ezra Pound told his father that the fragmented nature of his CANTOS should be experienced as one experiences the disembodied voices of a radio drama:

"Simplest parallel I can give is radio where you tell who is talking by the noise they make." - Letter to Homer Pound, Nov.29, 1924, The Ezra Pound Collection, Beinecke Library, Yale University

2. "... the Russian Revolution owes its success to Marconi. You may verify this by reference to John Reed's 10 DAYS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD. The Bolshevik coup d'état could not have been effected without wireless; the other means of communication were sabotaged. Lenin is more interesting than any surviving stylist. He probably never wrote a single brilliant sentence... but he invented... a new medium, something between speech and action (language as cathode ray) which is worthy of any writer's study." - Ezra Pound, EXILE Magazine, Autumn, 1928, pp.3 and 115-16

Quoted by Richard Sieburth, "From Rossetti to Radio: Pound's Opera Cavalcanti" in EZRA POUND AND REFERENTIALITY, edited by Hélène Aji, Presses de l'Université de Paris-Sorbonne, 2003, p.149
