Dear all,

Here is an announcement and two calls for papers. On behalf of the Ezra
Pound Society, I would like to invite those attending the ALA conference in
Boston to look out for and attend our two sessions and Business Meeting
(dates and times to be announced by the ALA in March; see
http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/english/ala2/). As well, please consider
responding to our MLA Congress calls for papers (described below).

First, the following program has been submitted on behalf of the Ezra Pound
Society to this year’s ALA conference which is to be held in Boston, May
26-29, 2011.

Ezra Pound Session I:

Topic: Ezra Pound and H.D.: Early Poetry and an Unpublished Story

Chair: Demetres P. Tryphonopoulos, University of New Brunswick

1. “Modernity’s Anthropologist: Reconsidering Ezra Pound’s Homage to
Sextus Propertius,” LeeAnn Derdeyn, University of Texas at Dallas

2. “Ezra Pound’s ‘To La Mère Inconnue’: Unknown Manuscript to the
Unknown Mother,” Frances Dickey, University of Missouri at Columbia

3. “‘Aegina,’ An Unpublished Story by H.D.: A Performance with an
Introduction,” Mark Mallett, Victoria Conover, and Victoria Maratelli, The
Richard Stockton College of New Jersey

Ezra Pound Session II:

Topic: Ezra Pound’s Later Cantos

Chair: David Roessel, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey

1. "Dorothy Pound, John Randolph and ‘States' Rights’ in the Late
Cantos," Alec Marsh, Muhlenberg College

2. “Re-Reading the St. Elizabeths Letters from Ezra Pond to Olivia
Rossetti Agresti: Right-Wing Politics of an Inmate,” Demetrios P.
Tryphonopoulos: University of New Brunswick

3. "Global Pound: Travel and the Idea of Place in the Pisan Cantos,"
Ira B. Nadel, University of British Columbia

And second, in two already circulated announcements, the Ezra Pound Society
has made the following calls for paper submissions:

I: Call for papers. MLA 2012, Seattle. Ezra Pound Society guaranteed session
submission: "Language, Literature, Learning: Ezra Pound as Teacher/Teaching
Ezra Pound."

This panel will explore any aspects of Ezra Pound as Teacher or Teaching
Ezra Pound’s work. In keeping with this year’s presidential theme, papers on
“Language, Literature, Learning” (see President’s invitation at
http://www.mla.org/pdf/berman_letter_2012.pdf) are encouraged.

Please send 500-word abstracts to Demetres P. Tryphonopoulos
([log in to unmask]) or Ira B. Nadel ([log in to unmask]) by February 28,
2012.

Possible ways of approaching this year’s theme may include (but not be
limited to) Pound and the American West; Pound and War; Pound and Technology
(the radio, photography, film, printing); Pound and Translation; Pound and
Performance; and Pound and the Media.

II: Call for papers. MLA 2012, Seattle. Ezra Pound Society and James Joyce
Foundation joint-session submission: "Ezra Pound and James Joyce:
Connections and Disconnections.”

Papers are invited dealing with the affinities between and reactions by each
author to the work of the other. Intertextual links as well as disparities
and aesthetic and political differences may also be addressed.

Sincerely,

Demetrios P. Tryphonopoulos
