==========================================================================
As I posted last night after the game, Wisconsin came out flat. CC
dominated the first period, with Wisconsin not getting a shot on goal
until after the 10 minutes mark. Coach Sauer said he kind of expected
it, since they had a bad week of practice. Jon Michellizze kept them in
the game in the first.
In the second period, individual badgers began to play with more
hustle, leading to many more scoring chances, but Bach played very well
in net for the tigers. The badgers never really played well as a team,
but came through with some big defensive plays, and Michellizzi made
the big saves he needed for the shutout.
Both teams had problems with controlling the puck. At one point, one of
the guys I sit with said "They're playing soft puck!" (The computer
science hockey club plays both regular and "soft puck" hockey... and a
"soft puck" bounces a lot, but won't slide on the ice). It was a
moderatly warm evening, and rainy, which made the ice soft.
This was Brad Buetow's first game coaching the Tigers after his
suspension. He had only this week of practice back with the team.
