Bangor area people: See Maine Hockey Monthly tomorrow (Sunday, 24
October) at 6pm on Channel 7 WVII TV.

PS: Maine wins the JC Penney tournament tonight, with B Heisten being
named tournament MVP. P Metcalf and D Kerluke were the Maine
entries on the all-tournament team. Well deserved!

On the down-side, (1) if 2 or 3 all tournament goalies were named,
none would be from Maine, (2) how many short-handed goals given up
in 4 games (1/game?)?, and (3) boo and hiss to a tournament that
offered a $17 fan entrance fee, 2 teams from the same conference
meeting in the opening round, no special fan giveaways such as
pom-poms or pucks, and no teams, outside of the host team, expected
to be (US) nationally ranked this year or previous years.

In a post-game interview, (player) Walsh said there is a lot to work
on after this weekend and (coach) Walsh implied that in upcoming
games Maine must and will play with more intensity.

Cheers to the fans who filled the Alfond this weekend and had a great
time cheering on the home team. The community and student fans came out
and provided great support of their team in a pair of meaningless games.

By the way, as you know from reading this list, this year's NCAA rules
allow for a shoot-out to decide tournament games after a 5-minute
overtime. The JC Penney rules in this respect were: the consolation
game would have a 5-man shoot-out should it have ended in a tie; all
other games would have been played until a tie was broken. Great call!

cheers to Maine Hockey and all its supporters, wayne
