Roxanne Stang Named WCHA Rookie of the Week
St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University first year forward Roxanne
Stang, a resident of Princeton, has been selected as the WCHA's women's
Rookie of the Week for games played on Feb. 16-17.
Stang played a key role in the Huskies' 6-5 upset win over #2 ranked
Minnesota-Duluth on Feb. 17, in St. Cloud. The victory over UMD was the
first for the Huskies in the three-year history of the women's hockey
program at SCSU. In the game, Stang charted a school record five points
(four goals and one assist). Stang also hit the game winning goal in the
game at 3:01 of overtime to lift the Huskies. She also had an assist on
Abby Cooper's goal in the second period.
Stang opened the weekend with a goal during the Huskies' 7-3 loss to UMD
on Feb. 16.
Stang ranks first on the team this season with a school record 25 goals
to her credit. She also has 12 assists for a total of 37 assists this year.
In the WCHA, Stang ranks fourth in the league (WCHA games only) with 21
goals.
The Huskies currently own a 15-13-2 overall mark and a 10-8-2 record in
the always rugged WCHA. On Feb. 24-25, the Huskies will host Ohio State
with a pair of games at 11:05 a.m. both days.
