UCONN TO RAISE MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER FRIDAY
Huskies to open first full week of MAAC play with two games against Sacred
Heart

EDISON, NJ --The MAAC Hockey League gets into full swing this weekend as 10
of the 11 MAAC schools battle amongst each other in conference action. The
headline game of the weekend is Friday night at 7:30 when Sacred Heart
(1-1-0, 0-0-0) travels to the UConn Ice Arena to collide with the defending
MAAC Champions Connecticut (0-3-0, 0-0-0). The Pioneers will have revenge on
their minds after letting a 4-1 lead turn into a 5-4 defeat against the
Huskies in the 2000 Easton/MAAC Championship quarterfinals. Before the game,
the University of Connecticut Athletic Department and the Husky ice hockey
team will unveil the 2000 MAAC Championship banner. These two teams finish a
home and home series at 5:00 Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Another big game is at 7:00 Friday night as Army (0-2-0, 0-1-0) heads to the
Northford Ice Pavilion to clash with Quinnipiac (3-0-1, 1-0-1). The Black
Knights are 3-1 all time against the Braves but all four games were played
in West Point. Quinnipiac didn't lose a MAAC regular season home game last
year and are unbeaten in their last 24 (22-0-2) MAAC regular season games.
American International (0-3-0, 0-0-0) will be looking for their first win of
the season when they host Fairfield (1-1-0, 0-0-0) at the Olympia Ice Center
at 7:00 Friday night. The Yellow Jackets were 3-0 against the Stags in
1999-00 outscoring Fairfield 16-9.

Bentley (0-2-0, 0-0-0) travels to the Amherst Pepsi Center Friday night to
take on Canisius (1-1-0, 0-0-0) at 7:30. The Falcons will be looking for
their first ever win against the Ice Griffs since Bentley entered the league
prior to the 1999-00 season. They are 0-5 against Canisius during that span.

Mercyhurst (0-1-0, 0-0-0) welcomes Holy Cross (0-1-0, 0-0-0) to the
Mercyhurst Ice Center for a 7:30 faceoff on Friday night. The Lakers went
3-1 against the Crusaders last year including a 10-3 rout in the 2000 Easton
/MAAC Championship quarterfinals.

Iona (1-1-1, 1-1-1) entertains College Hockey America member Wayne State at
the Skate Nation Arena on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30. The Gaels went
0-2 against the Warriors out in Detroit last year.

On Saturday, American International travels to the Northford Ice Pavilion to
battle first place Quinnipiac at 5:00. The Yellow Jackets were 0-3 against
the Braves last year being outscored 15-4.

Bentley continues its road trip with a 7:30 Saturday tilt at the Mercyhurst
Ice Center against Mercyhurst. The Lakers went 3-0 against the Falcons last
season and shut out Bentley in their last two meetings.

Canisius has its second straight game at the Amherst Pepsi Center at 7:30
Saturday night when they host Holy Cross. The Ice Griffs went 2-1 against
the Crusaders in the 1999-00 season.

Army heads to upstate New York to faceoff against #12 Rensselaer on Saturday
night at 7:00. The Black Knights have an all time record of 15-24-2 against
