The "CCHA record" inclues CCHA regular season games only.

Basically, Shields has a ton of non-league wins, allowing him
to break the overall record before the league record. (Plus, the
CCHA season included more games in the past.)

Gary Kruzich (Bowling Green) had 67 CCHA wins from 84-87.
He had 88 overall wins, the not-for-long NCAA record.

Shields started the year with 61 CCHA wins.

There is one other CCHA career record within Shields's
grasp--shutouts. He had 3 coming into the year and the record
is four. He is WAY behind on saves: 1664, compared with
Glenn "Tiger" Healy's 3266 for WMU from 82-5.
