According to a story in the Grand Forks Herald, Bemidji State University
officially announced Monday that the Beavers are officially moving their Men's
Hockey program to Division I status, ending months of speculation that such a
move was afoot. BSU plans to begin a full Division I schedule with the
1999-2000 season, and will become the fifth D-I hockey program in Minnesota.
BSU elevates to Division I after collecting thirteen national Division II
titles, with head coach Bob Peters behind the bench for the last 32 seasons.
The Beavers will play the upcoming season in the Division III NCHA.
