=> Thanks for always posting the PWR rankings to the list. I'm curious,
=> just for the sake of argument, how the rankings would be affected if the
=> Icebreaker Tournament was included and maybe the Hall of Fame game. The
=> Hall of Fame game is, at least to my recollection, clearly an exhibition
=> game. But as far as I know, the Icebreaker Tournament is still up for
=> debate. I know some people don't think it is, but I have yet to see a
=> conclusive statement from the NCAA saying it's solved. I'm just
=> curious. SO, my questions to you is, how do I manipulate the numbers to
=> include the Icebreaker games. I'm not asking you to do it, because I'm
=> sure it's probably pretty tedious. But, I was never any good at
=> statistics in undergrad or grad school, so I need a little help.
=>
=> Thanks.

actually, it isn't THAT tedious. Here are 2 printouts
The first counts the icebreaker as exhibitions and the second does
not. in rpi, 1&2 trade, 3&4 trade, 8&9 trade, 11&12 trade, 15 jumps
to 13 dropping 13 and 14 down and 19 &20 swap

the PWR is less sensitive. 8 & 9 swap 11&12 swap 14 and 16 swap

consider this the free sample.....

This calculation includes only teams eligible for the NCAA tournament.
Since Nebraska-Omaha and Niagara both fit the definition of
an Emerging Program, and the NCAA does not include emerging programs
in their calculations, their games are not included.
The total is calculated by the Rating Percentage Index method,
used as a tool by the NCAA in selecting teams for national
collegiate tournaments in several sports. Ratings are derived
by summing each team's winning percentage, the average winning
percentage of its opponents, and the average winning percentage
of its opponents' opponents, multiplied by the given weights.
Factors such as importance of game, margin of victory, or home
ice are not included in the calculations.

Teams can earn points for each of the following criteria:
  1. Head to head Competition (one point per game)
  2. Record against common opponents
  3. Record against teams under consideration
  4. Record in last 20 games
  5. Ratings percentage index

The record in the last 20 games, the record against teams
under consideration, the ratings percentage index, and
the number of pairwise comparisons won are listed above.

(for individual comparisons, subtract head to head record
from the overall 'being considered' record given above.)

The Ratings percentage index is used as a tiebreaker.
Since Nebraska-Omaha and Niagara both fit the definition of
an Emerging Program, and the NCAA does not include emerging programs
in their calculations, their games are not included.
Summaries of head to head competition results, record
against common opponents, and overall pairwise
comparisons are given in 3 tables below.
