It was a hard fought game, and one which BG seemed destined not to put away
until the very end. OSU certainly showed a new spark in their step, while BG
looked a little rough around the edges (at best) and sometimes quite sloppy (at
worst). Nonetheless, BG walks away with a 7-5 victory, and 2 more points in
its quest to finish in 2nd place.

BG was to twice blow 3 point leads enroute to the victory margin of 2 points.
It took 13:09 into the 1st period before the light would light with Dave
Faulkner's goal for the Falcons. This goal was followed up less than a minute
later when Tom Glantz skates one in at 14:02. With BG's third goal at 15:50,
many of us thought we were about to witness a rout (but, alas, that was not to
be). Chad Ackerman's goal for BG was a thing of beauty. A good defenseman
(and, of late, bbecoming an excellent defenseman) no one could accuse Chad of
being a scoring threat. On this play, however, he skates the puck down ice
from the left side, circles behind the net, brings it out on the right side to
the circle, and fires it in for the power play score. (You will notice later
that this earns him the 2nd star of the night). What a sight! OSU was
obviously undaunted by the spectacle, and sinks a power play shot of its own at
18:34 to end the 1st period 3-1.

The second period was to begin in favor of the Buckeyes. Back-to-back goals by
Adam Smith (2:09 and 3:53) tied things up, and started the Falcon crowd
murmuring. BG, though, for the second time was to move out with 3 unanswered
goals. The first at 6:00 came from Mike Hall 10' out dead center. The next
two can truly be called courtesy of the "Amazing Shegos". Calls all night had
been slow and rather lax (the roughing, etc. was really slipping through) and
when Kurt Brown fell on a puck in the crease, there was no whistle, and BG kept
pursuing the puck, causing (after we finally managed to find our whistle) a
pretty involved fight infront of the net. The ensuing penalties (added to one
already underway) left OSU 2 men short. The Falcons capitalized twice, Kelly
Perrault both times, the first a shot halfway back in the zone at 19:46 of the
2nd period.

And the second a rocket shot from the blueline at :35 of the 3rd period. Once
again feeling the game well in hand, OSU was to come back and knock on the
door. A goal caused by Will Clarke's failure to cover came at 2:03 (Sellers
for OSU); and a 12:50 goal caught Clark on his backside and was sent in over
him by Power. OSU made it heartstopping for a moment as they had the tying
breakaway, but a bad offensive choice allowed Clarke to come up with the
biggest save of the night. BG was to cap things off with an insurance goal
at 16:37 by Jason Clark. OSU, down by 2 goals, called its time out at 18:12
and elects to pull the goalie on the face-off in the BG zone. In an
uncharacteristic move, Shegos now finds his whistle to call an interference
penalty on Brian Holzinger at 18:23. Now with Ohio State on the power play, BG
elects to take its time out. The BUckeyes' struggle does not find pay-off,
however, as the game ends without another score.

****Hobey Baker Watch****
Holzinger had one assist tonight bringing his total to 61. Several breakaway
cahnces just couldn't quite be converted. I go out on a limb and say Sunday's
game will break open another scoring streak!
