Today's NYT has the regular Thursday college hockey report.  It includes:
 
1) INTERFERENCE - It quotes Charles Holden, director of officials for the
NCAA, and Sid Watson, athletic director for Bowdoin College, who say that
college hockey is improving.  They were mainly talking about the
officiating and say that a big target is cutting down on various kinds of
interference: hitting from behind, hooking and holding.
 
2) ECAC East - Says this is a strong group of 18 New England teams in
DSivision III.  Bruce Marshall is soon to have 100 victories as U. Conn
coach.  Bowdoin is helped by a pair of twins, Charlie and Joe Gaffney.
They're 5 ft. 8 in. and 155 pounds.  Sid Watson said, "They may be small,
but their hearts are big."
 
3)  ECAC South - Skidmore and Fairfield are having great seasons.
 
4) Holiday Tournaments - lists the Division I tournaments.
 
5) Slap shots -
Torpedo Yaroslavl of the Russian Elite League will be touring 10 games in
10 cities.
 
Yales's Zoran Kozic, from kBelgrade works in teh Yale investment office
as an Eastern European specialist
 
St. Michael's which was 1-19 last season has won 5 of 7 games this year.
 
Laurie Belliveau, a freshman goalie for the Uale women's team, stopped
143 of 165 shots in 3 games.  The team is 0-8 (last of 15 teams in the ECAC.
 
As always, they include the standings of the 4 Division I conferences.
