In lieu of a longer response I had planned:
First choice: No overtime
Second choice: Unlimited overtime
 
Facetious choice (prompted by Arthur Mintz scoring proposal:
  Win in regulation  2 points
  Win in overtime    1 point, 0 for loser
  Tie    1 point each
 
(As to 2nd choice, that is not feasible for college hockey.)
 
Not so facetious: After EVERY game (there are no OTs) a shootout that
has no bearing on team standings.  Maybe this could be spunoff as a
separate sport.
