Wow, what a weekend.

I am sick as a dog, but worked Saturday. And then had to teach a 8:00 AM class
this morning. There ought to be a law against ... Sunday night games that don't
end until 1:00 AM ... But what a weekend for MTU. Friday, MTU got its first
road game of the season against a team that won 17 games at home this season and
beat MTU badly at MTU's Winter Carnival. Saturday night, CC came back (3-0) and
it again looked bad for MTU. Then last night ... it was the first time that a WCHA
last place team toppled the first place team to go to the final five.

Comments:

Saturday night was marked by CC domination of MTU. MTU took early penalties and
paid the price. Rud managed to get into the slot area and pelted Ram with shots
until one went in. The second shot was more of the same. MTU just could not pull
it together Saturday night. But for the great goal tending of Jamie Ram, the
score would have been a run away.

Sunday night, Ram stopped 52 shots. In three games, Ram stopped 144 shots of 151.
Clearly, MTU was not to be denied. The second period Brent Peterson breakaway
shot put MTU on the board. Then a pane of plexiglass broke in the Braodmoor. As
a result the game was delayed some 20 minutes. When MTU came back, they had lost
their early momentum. CC's McNeil tied the game shortly after the unanticipated
intermission. MTU then took four straight penalties (two on Hanchuk for holding
simultaneously for two different offenses) to result in two different 2 men
advantages to CC. However, MTU, the best penalty killing unit in the WCHA, denied
CC to end the second period.

Shortly before the 2nd period ended CC's Fearns took a 10 minute misconduct.
Apparently this is just what he needed. Appearing oin the ice midway through
the 3rd Period, well rested and fresh, he skated away from MTU and fed the puck
to Schidt who put CC up by one point. However, Marty Machecek went on a mission
to pull Tech up even and thet he did with his goal from the slot at 12:51.

Forced into overtime, MTU came out with the jump and outskated a tired CC team.
In a face off out side the zone, Pat Mikesch passed the puck to Brent Peterson
who moved down the slot and end the game. It has been the first game in two years
that MTU has won in overtime.

Now, we must face the Wildcats Thursday night in Milwaukee and I have to teach at
8:00 AM Friday. Is there no justice?
