Can someone out there (Mike?) englighten me as to exactly what is happening
with Merrimack's program? A two-loss weekend two Princeton and Yale, in
which one of the best offensive lines in the country (Kris Porter 17 goals,
Sandy Cohen 11, and Casey Kesselring 7) is limited to TWO goals for the
entire weekend?

Egad.

Is it so easy for other teams now to target that first line to keep them
off the board? If so, why doesn't Ron Anderson juggle up the lines a bit --
or is he?

Also, as potent a scorer as Kris Porter is, how does he match up on
defense? As of 11/22 he is +8 (from MM's website), but is this due to
strong play in the netural zone and effective forechecking, or is this only
because when he's on the ice opposing teams ignore scoring and just try to
fend him off?

And how about Cris Classen -- the guy's got an .859 save percentage and a
GAA of 5.26. Is his defense just letting him down in a big way, or is he
really little more than a kitchen untensil?

At this point it would be hard to say that Merrimack is even "a one-line
team," because in many circumstances that can spell success [see: Vermont
95-96]. I haven't seen them play, and am not familar with Anderson's
strategy, but it seems that the lines need to be changed around quite a
bit. Having a front line with over 40 goals (not sure about the defensemen,
guessing they've got around 5) is a great thing for the stats, but that's
about it. If Porter's the real deal, he'll do just fine no matter who you
team him with.

Spread the talent!
