BEAVERS, BLUGOLDS, GREEN KNIGHTS SWEEP; FALCONS GET THREE POINTS
LAST WEEK: Bemidji State, UW-Eau Claire and St. Norbert all scored
sweeps while UW-River Falls took three of four points in the first
full weekend of conference action.
THIS WEEK: UW-River Falls entertains St. Norbert in the only NCHA
action of the week. UW-Superior is at UW-Stevens Point for a non-
conference series while Lake Forest is at Mercyhurst, St. Scholastica
is at Mankato State and UW-Eau Claire is at the Elmira Tournament,
playing Connecticut College on Friday and either host Elmira or
Potsdam State on Saturday night. Bemidji State has the weekend off.
UW-River Falls 5, UW-Stevens Point 2
UW-River Falls 2, UW-Stevens Point (OT)
FRIDAY: The Falcons broke away from a tight game with three third
period scores for the win. In an early see-saw battle, the Falcons
scored first on Brian Wilson s powerplay goal midway through the
first. Kevin Plager then tied it for UWSP at 16:19 of the same
period. UWRF retook the lead at 10:06 of the second on a powerplay
score from Jeremy Jeanette before Casey Howard s score just over a
minute later evened it up again. But River Falls got unanswered
scores from Wilson (powerplay), Eddie MacDonald (powerplay) and
Jeanette (empty net) to put it away. Tom Bachmeier made 22 saves for
the victory.
SATURDAY: Tyler Johnston s score midway through the second period
tied it up and that s the way it stayed through OT. The Falcons
struck first on Eddie MacDonald s powerplay goal at 14:01 of the first
before Pat Bogen tied it three minutes later. UWRF grabbed the lead
back at 2:46 of the second on MacDonald s second goal of the night
before Johnson tied it. Jeff Heil stopped 25 shots for the Falcons
while David Fletcher had 23 saves for the Pointers.
St. Norbert 3, Lake Forest 2
St. Norbert 5, Lake Forest 3
FRIDAY: Ken Holtschlag s early third period score, his second of the
game, lifted the Green Knights in their first-ever NCHA game. SNC
took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals from Mike Porcaro and
Holtschlag before the Foresters got a pair in the second period from
Kit Read and David Sass to tie it and set the state for Holtschlag s
game-winner. Scott Vettraino made 20 saves for the win while Sean
Keck stopped 51 shots in a losing effort.
SATURDAY: The Green Knights raced to a 3-0 lead in the first period
on the way to the sweep. Keith Mizwicki, Stew Weepers and Jason
Sanford scored first period goals before Ryan Chase got LFC on the
board early in the second. Cale Politoski and Mike Porcaro made it 5-
1, SNC, before Todd McCaslin got it back with three for the Foresters
midway through the second and Kit Read closed out the scoring at 9:54
of the third. Scott Vettraino made 35 saves for the win.

SATURDAY: Bernie Adlys scored back-to-back powerplay goals in the
first six minutes of the third period and the Beavers held on for the
win. John Murgatroyd got the Yellow jackets out to a 1-0 lead just
over a minute into the game before Eric Monsrud started a string of
three straight BSU scores, including Adlys , to make it 3-1 at 6:07 of
the third. Doug Smith brought Superior within one at 17:57 of the
final period but Bemidji held on. Robin Cook had 21 saves for the win
while Dave Graichen made 23 stops in a losing effort.
SUNDAY: Bernie Adlys scored with under four minutes left and the
Beavers held on for the sweep. BSU took a 2-0 first period lead on
scores from Craig McKechney and Eric Monsrud before UWS tied it with a
pair of second period goals by John Murgatroyd and Brent Shaback. The
Beavers reclaimed their two-goal lead with late second period and
early third period goals from Monsrud and Craig Matatall before UWS
cut the lead back to one on Jason Radtke s score. Adlys then got what
proved to be the game-winner before Greg Christianson closed out the
scoring. Robin Cook had 30 saves in net for the win while Dave
Graichen made 25 stops in a losing effort.
UW-Eau Claire 8, St. Scholastica 3
UW-Eau Claire 5, St. Scholastica 4
SATURDAY: After falling behind 2-1, the Blugolds exploded for six
second period scores from six different players to win going away.
Trapper Niccum gave UWEC an early lead before Sean Storie and Ken Beck
scored late in the first and early in the second, respectively, for a
2-1 Saints advantage. Eau Claire then got consecutive scores from Tim
Nelson, Dan Granato, Niccum, Luke Strand, Dan Sedlacek and Gerry
Burrows to take a commanding 7-2 lead after two. Kyle Erickson broke
the string for CSS midway through the third and Granato closed out the
scoring with his second goal of the night. Bob Thorp made 37 saves
for the win in net.
SUNDAY: Matt Loen s goal at 17:49 of the third lifted the Blugolds to
the sweep. Jay Pylypuik s powerplay goal just under three minutes
into the first gave UWEC the lead followed by another powerplay score
from Jeff Metro early in the second. The Saints got on the board at
6:46 of the second on Kyle Erickson s powerplay before Trapper Niccum
pushed the lead back to two with the team s third straight powerplay
score at 14:11. CSS pulled close again at 15:53 of the second on Adam
Dake s goal to make it 3-2, EC, after two. Gerry Burrows tallied at
9:17 of the third to make it 4-2 before Fred Paine and Kenny Beck
scored back-to-back goals to tie it and set the stage for Loen s game-
winner. Bob Thorp had 31 saves in net for the win while Andy Karsnia
made 34 saves in defeat.

NCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bernie Adlys, Jr, C, Bemidji State (Waterloo, Ontario)
Bernie Adlys wins this week s NCHA Player of the Week honor. In a
sweep of UW-Superior, Adlys had three goals, two on the powerplay, and
two assists while scoring the game-winner both nights.
Also nominated were Bob Thorp, a goalie from UW-Eau Claire, who
recorded a pair of wins in a sweep of St. Scholastica, stopping 68 of
75 shots; Dave Graichen, a goalie from UW-Superior, who stopped 48 of
56 shots in the series against Bemidji State; and David Fletcher, who
stopped 44 of 50 shots in the series against UW-River Falls.
