Army threw quite a scare into Merrimack in this Halloween afternoon
game, as the Warriors led 6-2 after two but had to hold on for a 6-5
win. Merrimack remains unbeaten at 3-0-0, their best start in 5
years, while Army fell to 2-3-0.

Center Rob Atkinson had another good game, tallying two goals and an
assist. He now has 4-5--9 in three games. Other Merrimack goals were
scored by Naylor, Mailhiot, Krauss, and Johnson, the latter two
scoring their first-ever collegiate goals. G Martin Legault, who posted
the huge win over RPI Friday night, was given the night off; in his
place, fellow freshman Eric Thibeault stopped 27 of 32 shots, playing
well. The usually stalwart defense seemed to fall asleep in the third
as Thibeault was forced to make second and third saves far too often,
and all three Army goals came from right in front.

Army was led by Ted Doyle's two goals and an assist; I believe Doyle
was playing his first game of the season. G Ron Adimey also played
well, stopping 42 of 48 shots. The Black Knights were outplayed in
the first two periods, but they came on strong in the third and
capitalized on Merrimack's seemingly lackadaisical attitude. Given a
few more minutes, they might have come back to tie or win. Despite
getting the win, Merrimack should learn from this that they aren't the
greatest thing since sliced bread just because they beat RPI and that
they'll need to play 60 minutes to win.

Merrimack will host ECAC foes Colgate and Dartmouth next weekend.
