These are the criteria as I understand them.  The teams are ranked by
winning percentage and strength of schedule (the same method that is used
in producing RPICH).  If two or more teams are tied in the ratings, then
the following factors come into play:
 
  -- record in head-to-head competition
  -- record against common opponents
  -- record against teams under consideration
  -- record in post-season play
  -- record "down the stretch" (last 10 games, last 15 games)
 
I gathered this information from watching the NC$$ Selection Show last
year and this year, and have both of the shows on tape.  Laing Kennedy
listed the criteria in interviews on both shows.  I can review the tapes
and provide exact quotes if needed.
