Sunday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium, the Brown Bears capped off an
excellent weekend with a convincing 7-0 win over the Princeton Tigers. The
Bears avenged their 6-2 loss in December to stay in the hunt for the Ivy
League title.

Brown got on the board midway through the first period at 7:42 when Marcie
Deering batted in a Tara Mounsey slapper that flew over the net and off the
back wall. Tamra Jones tallied the next goal just over a minute later at
8:55 when Carly Regnier found her wide open at the left faceoff circle and
made the quick flip to beat Princeton goalie Susan Maes. Just 40 seconds
later, while Jill Graat was tangled in front of the net with Maes and
several other Princeton defenders, Emily Sigman would knock the loose puck
in for Brown's third goal. Princeton did not look like a team that should
have beaten Brown so badly in December. They were sluggish and seemed to
have a hard time finding each other, especially to break out of their own
zone. Brown was controlling the puck nicely and setting up plays well in
front of the net.

In the second, the Bears scored again early when Jordan Jiskra was credited
with a goal that deflected off a Princeton defender's leg. I thought Jones
was actually responsible for this but she got the assist. At 11:43 Julie
Iler took a tripping penalty for the Bears, and shortly after the ensuing
faceoff Carly Regnier went bolting down the right side into the Princeton
zone along with a defender. She dug the puck out of the corner and passed
it to a waiting Jiskra, who was open and beat Maes stick-side to put
Brown up 5-0 with the shorthanded goal. Kristy Zamora would add another one
at 15:50 when she fell coming across the slot but still managed to tap one
past a sprawling Maes. In the third Tara Mounsey would score Brown's final
goal when she brought one in the left side and managed to stuff one through
Maes. Things got a little sloppy midway through. At this point both
teams, Princeton especially, were looking tired.

The Tigers couldn't seem to get anything together on offense all day.
They'll need to find a way to get out of their own zone if they want to
have a chance. They could break up the plays but couldn't follow up by
playing the loose puck effectively. The Brown defense, stingiest in the
league, is still in very good form but not challenged in their own end
today. They're making good plays in the neutral zone and the blue liners
are keeping Brown on offense. The forwards were skating rings around the
Tigers today and put on a lovely show. Their timing on the scoring plays
is improving. This will be important as the Bears head to Harvard and
Northeastern next week, as getting points on the board against good teams
has been a challenge all season.
