As a parent of a player attending Maine during those two years of Walsh's
actual suspension and his first year back at the bench, Maine received the
worst slurs from every direction imaginable. So, I can empathize with Dan and
all Maine fans and players.

I'll never forget some incidents last year that so repelled me,and they were
all in the name of fan-dom! The players themselves endured a barrage of
scurrilous fanatical verbal attacks which plagued the program and its
supporters. Maine couldn't take a piss without some one hollering foul play!
Underline that ten times! Adversarial vehemence never smarted so good!

There is no way to recoup, except by showing the Nation that they are indeed a
great program! That's important to everyone associated with Maine, not just
the players and Coach Walsh. But old wounds sometimes never heal and Maine had
their share and some. Even though, I'm the parent of a player who left the
program, that doesn't alter the facts and the truth! The program and the
players were unfairly maligned! Now as an outsider, I can without partiality,
and more with a sense of objectivity still repeat that Maine suffered a
humongous amount of trashing, in my view by worse trash.

But, in the end all that trashing didn't change what's true about Maine! Maine
is a great school with a great program. No one can bring that down
permanently. Even Walsh! (-:

P.S.Maine loyalists need not reply with, "you finally said something we agree
with!" (-:
