Because they earned it! ... and the NCAA has sanctioned that fact!
 
It'll be good to get the "big gun" back in the tournaments. I wonder how last
year's would have turned out had Maine not tried to self-impose their own
sanctions. I also wonder if Maine would have done things differently in light of
the results of the NCAA imposing their own sanctions anyhow.
 
After all is said and done, Maine did pretty well this year after losing four
potential All-Americans.
 
Will 97-98 see a Maine #1 seed in the east. Surely, they're severely missed!

1990 #3 East
1991 #1 East
1992 #1 East
1993 #1 East ( NCAA Champions )
1994  - missing - ( Many forfeited games - Record would've been 16-15-4 )
1995 #2 East
1996  - missing - ( Self imposed sanctions - Record was 26-9-4 )
1997  - missing - ( NCAA sanctions - Record 18-10-1 so far )
