SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Eight different players scored for Lake
Superior State and Laker goalie Darrin Madeley turned in a fine 27-
save performance as LSSU handed Northern Michigan a 8-1 loss before a
school-record crowd of 3,395 at the Norris Center Arena Saturday
night.

Dallas Drake scored his second schorthanded goal of the season and
sixth of his career for Northern Michigan's (3-3-2 Overall) only
tally of the evening. Rob Kruhlak made 25 saves for the Wildcats who
trailed 7-1 after two periods thanks to a five-goal outburst by the
Lakers in the second stanza.

Lake Superior State is now 6-1 overall.

A few notes from the game...Northern Michigan's Scott Beattie had his
point-scoring streak stopped at seven games...It was the second time
this season that NMU has given up eight goals in a game...NMU's
Dallas Drake needs three shorthanded goals to tie the school record
of nine held by Steve Bozek.

On an unrelated item...What a dogfight the WCHA race is turning into
this season. With St. Cloud's improbable sweep of North Dakota this
weekend, we now have Wisconsin in first place with 12 points after
sweeping Michigan Tech in back-to-back overtime games (both UW game-
winners were power-play goals) followed by Minnesota with eight
points, then North Dakota, Northern Michigan and Minnesota-Duluth
with six apiece, Tech and CC with five apiece and Denver and St.
Cloud with four apiece.

Keep the great info. coming!
