i think that letting jr players play at a college level is perfectly
fine....it does however present differance in the competetion between
those that are concidered to be able to play at a college level right
out of highschool and those that have had the 2 year advantage of
playing jr's....physiacaly, the boys out of jrs have been able to
adjust to playing with bigger boys...the kids from highschool have
basically played with kids there own size and age...there is a BIG
differance in the size factor...however..the kids that play for us that
are right out of highschool are not by any means small....the kids that
played for jr's or even spent time at a prepschool were able to take
advantage of down time to train in the weight room and work on their
physical development....however i think that it is fair to have kids
that player jr's to play at the college level only because it does
allow for greater competition also it allows for the higschool kids
that step up and are able to play at the college level to realize that
they are going to have to step it up to gain a spot on the team...and
they will know what they have to do to gain that spot...it causes them
to push themselves and gain the respect that they deserve...it takes a
lot to get on a team like maine or any other d1 school for that matter
and the fact that there are kids straight out of highschool that have
that potential says alot for them and their pervious achievements....it
does however make them realize that college hockey is a totally
different experiance then highschool hockey...that alone is a huge
step...also this statement:
There is not enough fish in the pond to stock Div 1 hockey straight
out of highschool and if they did... the quality of hockey would
plummit
is very true becuse with out the bigger boys/men..or whatever you want
to consider them..the competiton would be very slim and almost not even
worth watching...kind of like going to pee-wee hockey games when you
are used to hockey east games...ya get it???? well thats all.....
