Lindsay - there was once a famous writer who's name my Swiss cheese brain
can't recall right now who said something along the lines of "What's the use
of writing if you can't make SOMEONE mad"!! Besides you state your case so
well!

I have to ask - IS there friction between the season ticket holders and the
students? I know the U gave the S.T.H.'s plenty of latitude in choosing to
remain in the balcony or have their choice of available seats, so I find it
difficult to believe this is truly an issue. The S.T.H.'s had plenty of
warning that the noise level would dramatically increase, so if they aren't
happy, they have no one to blame but themselves and should put on a good face
until they can switch seats next season. As a matter of fact, I have one seat
in E section, so someone can trade with me right now!!

I myself am an old broad long past being a student, but I chose my seat behind
the Maine goal when that was THE student section just because I enjoy the
energy and noise they bring to a game. I know of at least two other older
fans who sat in the Blue Line section deliberately, and rang a cowbell after
every goal scored. Are you folks saying that we would not be welcome in the
balcony?

I am in possession of a very loud voice that projects well and the decibel
level has been found upsetting to some of nervous disposition (yes there is a
sneer in that comment!), but not the content of my cheers (Unless you count
the time I was cheering for Alfie and Javier had come in while I was
distracted!) If there was someone escorted out by the police, there has to
have been more to it than just loud. If loud were the criteria, I would be
seeing a lot less hockey, (and wouldn't sound like Demi Moore all the next
week...)! Also, it might be mentioned here that UMaine is practically the
ONLY barn in HE that adheres strictly to HE rules about these kinds of things,
even to the painting of the mascot on the ice, which issue Bob Thomas can
address! Personally, even though I think these rules too restrictive, I am
proud that Jim Dyer supports the rules and the spirit at games.

Sorry Chris, but I find your final sentence promotes true prejudice among the
students. If they can't share that section with the long time S.T.H.'s who
have been cheering the team on for years, then this signals to me a lack
somewhere in their character. And the same would be true in reverse if the
S.T.H.'s can't share with the students. I mean, come on people! Aren't we
all bonded by a common purpose here? The Student Section is a GOOD thing,
folks, even with some of us long time fans in there. Yes, it may not be
exactly what everyone considers ideal, but it is a decent compromise, and a
long way from past seasons, heading in the right direction. Stop picking it
apart with divisive commentary. Start showing a little courtesy in pursuit of
the goal, and keep on being LOUD!!!
